I Love Time Travel

When I was in Grade 3 I wrote myself a letter. And that letter I was too keep until I was old enough to invent a time machine. And when I had finished my time machine I was to open the letter and read my instructions, which were to travel back in time to when I was in Grade 3 and come visit the former me and my friends at Scott Thoutenhoofd's house, at our New Year's Eve sleepover party. I even told my friends that someone might be stopping in!

Another story from Grade 7 - I was really big into lying that year and I would tell people anything to gain their friendship. I told a whole group of guys that I had created a computer program that could type into the future and someone would type back to me in a "futuristic" language that they couldn't read. So they all gathered around my computer as I typed gibberish, hit enter, which then caused a spew of more gibberish to come on the screen and I would interpret it for them. I think after that stunt I pretty much had no more credibility left in town. Just think, I could have been the next Joseph Smith!

There have been a lot of movies and TV shows about time travel, and I would like to list for you the most influential ones in my life:

Millennium

Back to the Future Trilogy (specifically number II)

Star Trek: The Next Generation - "Time's Arrow" (to name one of the many interesting Star Trek time travel plots)

Timecop

Planet of the Apes

12 Monkeys

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure

Donnie Darko

Quantum Leap

Red Dwarf

Heroes

Wow, I knew I was a geek, but that's only the small list and I don't even have time to go into every one of them. Maybe I'll go more in-depth on my love of time travel sometime in the future...or maybe the past!

Look What Else I Got

With another birthday gift certificate from my Mom I just purchased the wildly popular video game "Guitar Hero II" for the PS2. I am quite excited about this. I've never been able to play the guitar that well and now I can shred all my favorite licks!

Sweet guitar, Jimmy!

I can now solve Rubik's cube!

Yesterday I got a Walmart gift card for my birthday from my Mom. I then went to Walmart and bought myself a Rubik's cube. And today, at least a dozen times, I solved it! Let this be a lesson for everyone...don't give up on your dreams!!!

I Lost (yes, i'm admitting it)

The Game.

It is hell.

I wish I never started.

I cheat to get ahead, but it leaves me feeling empty. Even though I win, everyone knows I'm not really winning.

The most frustrating thing is...even though I could get really good at it, people who are less skilled than me will always cause me to lose again and again.

How can anyone possibly win the Game?

You must lose.

You must admit defeat.

There is absolutely no possible way you can win the Game.

I finally get it.

sorry....

Flight of the Conchords

I now present my current obsession...

"Formerly New Zealand's fourth most popular folk-parody duo"

These two are quite the songwriters and performers. They currently have a show on HBO that I think is amazing. To give you a taste of their music here are some of their great lyrics.

"There’s people on the street getting diseases from monkeys
Yeah that’s what I said, they're getting diseases from monkeys
Why's this happening, please, who's been touching these monkeys
Leave these poor sick monkeys alone
They're sick, they’ve got problems enough as it is"

"Yo Frodo, whatcha doin' wearin' the ring?
All-powerful jewelry, is that your new thing?
I know it's hard when you're a little more than three foot four
Little arse so close to the floor.
Trying to lead your fellows through the gates of Mordor
The fellowship, yeah the fellowship.
I don't rap about bitches and hoes, I rap about wizards and trolls.
I'm passin' out the words of the Elven king.
Wisdom to all, 'Frodo, don't wear the ring.'
Frodo, don't wear the ring (The magical bling-bling),
You'll never be the Lord of the Rings.
Dwarves, elves, human beings,
Don't know what it is? It's the Lord of the Rings."

And here is the first video that got me hooked.

Enjoy.

An Angel Mowed My Lawn.

Being the procrastinator that I am, I had been putting off mowing the Pastor's lawn (I'm housesitting) for quite some time. Then it started raining, and it didn't stop for a week. So the lawn has been in desperate need of having a good mow.

So I was going to do it on Tuesday night, but I got to talking on the phone and it was quite late by the time I got home. As I pull into the driveway, do my eyes deceive me??? The front lawn has been mowed!

I can't believe it...I then look in the backyard. It's not mowed. Peculiar!?! So these are my two theories:

1. An angel mowed my lawn, but for some reason only mowed the front. And he also left all the clippings on the lawn. Hmm, I guess angels don't mow very many lawns.

2. My neighbour has been complaining to his wife how awful my lawn looks, but couldn't muster the courage to tell me off, so in desperation one Tuesday evening he came over and mowed it himself, muttering hateful words under his breath. And it makes sense why he wouldn't mow the backyard, it's not visible and doesn't touch his property. So, umm, should I be thankful??

Hmm, I'm going to stick with the Angel Theory. Now I just need to rake up the leftover clippings.

What's Happened?

I hardly post anymore...

But yet, I'm not the only one! So many of my friends haven't posted anything in months.

And I kinda feel bad that I haven't been posting. But then again, it sometimes takes a lot of effort to do it.

Regardless, I want to keep this blog going, so I commit to posting at least 3 times a week until the end of summer.

Yeah!

"Look at all the Pop Tarts!"

So I'm in Chapters today looking at books and as I'm flipping through this one on Indie Films, on the other side of the bookshelf I hear,"Look at all the POP TARTS!" Startled I look up to see a guy walking by really fast. Haha, that was so weird! In my head I deduce he probably has mental issues. It looks like he's coming back my way again...nope he went down a different aisle.

So then I'm driving home from Chapters, and I've gone about 3 blocks down, when I see this guy running on the sidewalk towards me. He reaches down and grabs what looks like a Wendy's soft drink cup and whips it in the air onto the road in front of me. What the heck??!? It's the same guy!!!

I think he is haunting me...

(on a side note, i never know which words to capitalize in a title and which ones not to. i'm pretty sure you don't capitalize "the" but what about "at" or "all"??)

What Should I Do?

I should get a pet, but I'm not sure which animal suits my personality. What is your opinion?

A bird of some sort? Flight is advantageous.

A doggy?

Kittens are cuddly.

Could I ever love a horse?

Raccoons are amazing looking, but I could never domesticate one.

A hyena might end up killing me, but I like laughter (do they really laugh? what's the deal there?)

I've always been fascinated with dinosaurs.

Hippos. They don't look normal, but there is something alluring about them.

How about a chipmunk? They are great climbers!

I don't know. Too many choices.

I'm not myself today...

Sometimes I get in these ruts where I just feel out of place. Like something is slightly off-kilter. In these times I find myself making random comments and questions in my head:

"What kind of mood am I in?"

"No, I am not myself today..."

"Do you know what I think of you?"

"Are you sure you want to go through with this?"

The funny thing is I don't really know why I say these things to myself. They just randomly pop up. Sometimes they have no application to my present situation. It's like a program kicks off in my brain that starts cycling through these sayings like error prompts on a computer.

Obviously, something isn't quite right.

Dennis is Married - Part Two

I am glad I could help Dennis out on his wedding. Here is a photographic journey of the day...

After washing the car, we headed over to Whiteday Wedding to put on our Tuxedos. I don't know about Dennis, but I probably could have used about 3 more hours of sleep.

I've never been to a wedding where the bride and groom hung out the morning before the wedding. Dennis got his hair done right after girls. I was too nice to tell him I didn't like what they had done...haha.

Once again, it was kinda weird hanging out with all the girls while they got ready.

On a side note, Eunmi's dad looked like this guy from Star Wars...

I had bought this weird two-sided tape to put these flower pompoms on Dennis' car, but it wasn't very strong and had to redo pretty much the whole thing just before the wedding!

My proud mother!

This was the cutest ringbearer and flower girl team that I'd ever seen. The girl was always smiling and the boy told me after, "You're really good at this!" Thanks...wait, what am I good at?!?

Just before the big ceremony. When I found out I was wearing a pink tie I wasn't too thrilled, but I figured, if Dennis is wearing one, I'll do it for him. Then on that day I found out I was the only pink tie wearer. Jerk!

Before the reception we had a few more photos to take, but the photographer was who knows where, so we did our own little photoshoot...

This is Eunmi's friend who is at YWAM in Kelowna right now. Greyhound went on strike the day she was supposed to come, so Dennis was the Saviour of the day by getting her a plane ticket at the last minute!

Nice watch!

The third attempt...

I am the wind beneath his wings.

The reception was a lot of fun! A Korean tradition I had never heard of was the ceremonial foot-whacking...I don't really get it, but it was fun to watch Dennis scream out in pain.

Dennis had to guess his bride just by her hands. He guessed wrong twice! Apparently the second time through he knew which one was her, but he mixed up the numbers.

At the end of the day I got my reward when Dennis had to change into his traditional Korean outfit. Love the pink Dennis!!!

It was an excellent ceremony. The whole day I could only barely speak two phrases in Korean; Hello and Goodbye. How lame!!! That's one difficult language. In the end, everything went extremely well, and the final dance party will always be memorable (I got to dance in the circle with Nien Nunb!!).
